How It Works

Step 1 Bring in your gently used children's clothing, toys and baby equipment.
Step 1 While you check out the great kids stuff in the store, the buyer will review your items.
Step 1 The buyer will select and make an offer on the items that meet current style, safety and condition standards, as well as store's current stock levels.
Step 1 Once you accept the offer, you’ll be on your way with some extra money, some great new stuff for your kids, or both!

At Once Upon A Child you'll find a huge selection of gently used kids clothing, toys, furniture and equipment at up to 70% off retail! We're not your typical secondhand store. The items that we buy and sell are next to new, good quality, clean and have been checked for safety standards.

No appointment necessary - we buy every day and will pay you on the spot! Check with your local store for additional details.

Selling Tips

  • In order for us to offer the latest and greatest in styles at value prices, clothing and accessories must be purchased within the last five years.
  • Equipment and toys must meet current safety standards and include all parts. Not sure if your item qualifies? Bring it in and we’ll check it out!
  • Check out our what we buy page to see what types of items we buy and sell, we know we buy items you have not even thought of!
  • Be sure your apparel items are freshly laundered and in good condition – no stains, fading, or excessive wear.
  • Clean toys and equipment sell best.
  • It is most efficient for us to review items folded neatly or laid flat in a box, bin or tote. Please, no hangers or garbage bags.
  • It’s always a good idea to call us to find out about what we buy.
What We're Buying

CLOTHING & SMALL TOYS:
Please bring your child's no longer needed freshly laundered clothing & toys to Once Upon A Child - Niles in two containers or less  such as totes, laundry baskets, or boxes. Something with a flat bottom since bags tend to rip & spill over and tend to wrinkle the clothing. You will receive your container back when we have finished viewing your items along with any items we are unable to make an offer. We operate on a first come/first serve basis. It usually takes about 15-20 minutes per person. We look at each piece of clothing individually checking for any slight staining, tears, odors, or wearing. Then we enter the clothing into our computer system according to size, brand, and condition. The Corporate computer system generates the prices. When we have finished evaluating your items, we will call the phone number you provide at sign-in to let you know that your offer is complete. Unfortunately, we are unable to disclose any offers over the phone. You are under no obligation to accept our offer and if you are unhappy with the price offered on any piece we can easily remove that item from the offer and return it to you. If you choose to accept our offer we can pay you in a variety of ways. You can take cash, check (which may need to be mailed), trade, or store credit. If you choose to be paid by trade or store credit the sales tax is waived for the amount of your offer.  You have 48 hours from the time we call to inform you that your offer complete to come in to the store, view your offer, & pick up any passed items or we will send a check to the address you provide at sign-in for the items we offered on and we will donate the  items we passed on to a local charity.

LARGE TOYS, EQUIPMENT, & FURNITURE:
Due to our small size, we try to offer on larger items while you wait. Items such as Strollers, Pack N Plays, High Chairs, Cribs, and Kitchens are included. Cribs must have a manufacter date after June 28th, 2011. ALL items must have the model number and brand name clearly marked. ALL items must pass our recall check and we reserve the right to not offer on items that do not appear to be safe, even if they have not been formally recalled. We may not offer on your item/s if there are signs of wear, staining, odor, or tears. We generally sell our Equipment & Furniture for around 50% of what they sell for new according to the web pricing on sites such as Walmart.com. We then pay around 50% of what we are going to market the item for. For example if a Pack n Play is selling on Walmart.com for $100, we are going to sell it for $50 and we will pay $25. If you also have clothing items to be priced they will be done in a first come/first serve basis. (See above) You are under no obligation to accept our offer and if you are unhappy with the price offered on any piece we can easily remove that item from the offer and return it to you. If you choose to accept our offer we can pay you in a variety of ways. You can take cash, check (which may need to be mailed), trade, or store credit. If you choose to be paid by trade or store credit the sales tax is waived for the amount of your offer. If you leave the store while we are pricing your large item/s, you have 48 hours from the time we call to inform you that your offer complete to come in to the store, view your offer, & pick up any passed items or we will send a check to the address you provide at sign-in for the items we offered on and we will donate the  items we passed on to a local charity.

WE DO NOT BUY STUFFED ANIMALS, CAR SEATS, MATTRESSES, DROP-SIDE CRIBS, DOORWAY JUMP-UP'S, INFANT CARRIERS/SLINGS, DECOR ITEMS, FEEDING ITEMS, BICYCLES, OR TRICYCLES. ALL CRIBS MUST HAVE A MANUFACTER DATE AFTER JUNE 28TH OF 2011 AND CANNOT HAVE BEEN REFURBISHED IN ANY WAY. YOU MAY BE REQUIRED TO HELP ASSEMBLE YOUR ITEMS BEFORE WE CAN MAKE A OFFER.
